Designing for Divergent Minds

My brain has always asked, ‘ Why?’ It is a fundamental aspect of how I interact with the world. When I see a new thing, my brain automatically wonders how it came to be the way it is.

I only really follow one ‘blog’ as such; it is more of a video blog or ‘vlog’ made by John and Hank Green called Vlogbrothers. (https://www.youtube.com/vlogbrothers) They have the best community surrounding this blog called Nerdfightaria which is founded on the principle of DFTBA (Don’t Forget To Be Awesome) which is an ethos which involves imagining others complexly and being kind to others.

Anyway, the idea of imagining others complexly is one of my core guiding principles in life. Growing up neurodivergent I always felt different, and like the world was not designed for the way that my brain worked. Turns out I was right, and the world is run by a bunch of neurotypical people, who (no offence) will never properly understand how my brain works. My goal is to help design a better world where minds like my own can exist a little easier than in the past.

I am also a writer who is obsessed with the design of book covers. I love the fact that the way to tell a Sci-Fi book apart from a fantasy book is to look for serifs.

Anywho, that’s just a little bit about me. I am looking forward to going on this design journey, and hope to gain some useful skills out of this!

Cheers,

Oliver
